CAT PILOTS RECEIVE FRANCE'S HIGHEST HONOR!
Remarks of Mr. Allen Pope I would like to express my gratitude for these men, especially the Ambassador and Colonel Rouceau, who have made this ceremony possible and to remember those valiant members of our organization who could not be with us today. May they rest well in the true knowledge that their efforts, in the final analysis of history, were never in vain. We should also remember the courage, dedication and sacrifice of those that fought to hold Dien Bien Phu while we fought to supply them. The valor of our brothers-in-arms on the ground was an inspiration to us and urged us on in the face of flak, weather and fatigue. Nor should we forget those whose fate has never been determined, lost in the battle itself and in the prison camps that took so many of the survivors. For those heroes we raise our aged hands in a salute of honor. We hope that the truth of these exploits, in the air and on the ground, will help to inspire a new generation to take up the challenge of our current day – to willingly assume the risks necessary to defend our Western ideals, culture and civilization as we thought to do so many years ago. Finally, I wish to thank you all for this great honor. It is sincerely appreciated. Allen L. Pope February 24, 2005 |
